Texture Transparency

Texture Transparency Tutorial

This tutorial will show you how to make parts of a texture transparent so that they do not appear in-game.

Exporting the Texture

Normal Map Blue Channel

The textures transparency is determined by the blue color channel in the textures Normal Map, you can preview this in TexTools as displayed above.

Save the Normal Map as a DDS and open it in Photoshop.

(For detailed info on how to open the texture in Photoshop, take a look at the Texture Modding Basics Tutorial).

Setting Transparency

Part Selection

You will want to select the parts that you would like to hide from the piece of gear.
(It is sometimes easier to select an area by using the magic wand tool in the alpha channel which determines color.)

Go to the Blue Channel

Once you have made the selection, switch to the textures blue channel

Color the selection

Color in the parts that were selected earlier black, this will ensure that they are made transparent in-game.

Saving & Importing the Texture

Now that we have colored the parts we want to make transparent black, we save the texture using the same format as the original texture. We then go back to TexTools and hit the Import button.

(For detailed info on how to save the texture in Photoshop, take a look at theĀ Texture Modding Basics Tutorial).
